Throat examination: Acute throat pain may be a simple viral infection, but could also be more serious, like a streptococcal bacterial pharyngitis or tonsillitis. Pain on one side only is a bit concerning for a possible mass. This should be evaluated within a week of onset of symptoms if pain is not resolving with basic measures.
