YES: Chikungunya is caused by a togavirus virus that is transmitted by the aedes aegypti mosquito. It can cause a debilitating illness, most often characterized by fever, headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, rash, and joint pain.

In some cases: First seen in tanzania in 1953, chikv became epidemic in 2004. It is only rarely fatal but after recovery from the fever, chills, rash, headache and flu like symptoms, some have protracted fatigue and arthritis for up to a year or so. This is more likely in the middle aged and elderly. It is present on africa, asia and the indian subcontinent. Insect precautions are wise.
