Viral infection: Chikungunya is a virus that is primarily transmitted to humans via the bite of infected mosquitoes. There have been outbreaks in Asia, Africa, Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Europe & the Caribbean. As of 2014 there have been no outbreaks in the continental United States.
