I'd talk to her DR : Before u wean her off. Mention to her dr any concerns u have about the meds and her overall health status. If ever u r considering tapering off this meds, u can try cutting the dose in half daily for 2 weeks then every other day for 2-4 weeks then stop. God bless u both !

Physician's help: Whenever you're dealing with elderly individuals, medication changes should always be made under the direction of the physician. As her daughter, if you have concerns about her medication you can always call her doctor and verbalize your concerns even if you don't have a release to receive information.

Discuss with her doc: Risperidone is often used in those with dementia for significant and sometimes dangerous symptoms that decrease quality of life and its use often decreases suffering. Before changing a medicine i recommend a careful discussion of what symptoms your mom had that are now treated. The whole care plan rather than one medicine should be assessed at regular intervals.
