Dr. Steven Koos answered

Specializes in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

IA Nerve Injury: Depends when your surgery was and to what degree the nerve sustained injury. Neuropraxia - will resolve on its own. Axonotmesis - takes months for recovery and recovery is variable. Neurotmesis - most severe injury and nerve may never recover unless surgically repaired. Recent procedure - within days, you could perhaps benefit by a tapering steroid rx lie a Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pak. Os eval and track.

Need more info: What type of nerve damage are you referring to? Was the nerve in your lower jaw damaged during procedure or are you talking about the teeth being sensitive due to secondary trauma during the procedure?
