What causes lipodystrophy?

Lipodystrophy: Possible causes are HIV infection & antiretroviral therapy such as zerit (stavudine). Other risk factors are being older, caucasian, & obese.

Lipodystrophy: Can be congenital (inherited) or acquired (such as HIV or antiretroviral drugs).

Many causes: Lipodystrophy, fat redistribution. Two different kinds of lipodystrophy, fat wasting, also known as lipoatrophy; fat loss from certain areas of the body, especially the arms, legs, face, and buttocks) fat accumulation, hyperadiposity; build up especially in belly, breasts, and back of the neck.Immune system. Immune diseases , older age, significant weight changes. Cong. Syndromes, partial or diffuse.
