Amitriptylene: Amitriptylene is an antidepressant whose side effects can help ibs -- especially when bowel activity is overactive. It can also cause changes in blood pressure when standing up from a lying position. This may dissipate in a few more days. Taking it at bedtime may help alleviate this & any sedating effects too. Please tell your doctor about any increase in depressive symptoms though!
