Crystal chemicals: About 5% of americans have kidney stones, so it is not common. When the concentration of dissolved chemicals (70% calcium oxalate) in urine is too high, the chemical precipitates out of solution and makes solid crystals of the chemical. Most stones pass spontaneously with conservative treatment (about 75%).
