Temporal arteritis?: A vein can get clotted, but usually in the legs. A sore temporal artery might be a symptom of temporal arteritis, which generally affects people in their 60's-70's. Also known as giant cell arteritis, this autoimmune disease can lead to blindness, stroke, and can affect other organs. A blood test (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) and a biopsy may be diagnostic, but treatment varies with symptoms.
