When my husband gets cuts and scrapes they are always infected, why does this happen?

Infected scrapes: Poor wound cleaning, smoking, suntanning and excessive alcohol use can all cause a depressed immune system and a poor response to healing of a wound. If your husband has none of these habits and is otherwise healthy then i would suggest he get a check-up and insure he has no underlying immune deficiency.

Frequent infection: He may be a carrier of infection. Apply Bactroban (mupirocin) Ointment to each nostril twice daily and take warm soapy baths to which 3-4 tbls. Have been added. This regime should help reduce his chances of developing infection.

I agree.: He probably doesn't keep the wounds cleaned and covered. Wash with soap and water apply antibiotic ointment cover with band aid. I wld obtain a culture of his nares for mrsa. If neg no treatment. Have him shower with hibiclens daily for two weeks. He may need to take an antibiotic for weeks months. Have him see an infectious dz doctor.
