Depends.: Has the child been properly evaluated for eyeglasses, and possibly patching? Many cases of strabismus respond well to simple eyeglass use. Eyeglasses can be easily changed as the eyes change with growth. Doing surgery too soon may result in an eye that turns out in the teen years. If the eye is already turning out instead of inward, then surgery at a younger age may be appropriate.
