Get the exposure: During an anterior lumbar inter body fusion, the vascular surgeon starts the surgery by moving the bowels away from the spine by various techniques. The important iliac arteries and veins are exposed and protected. The neurosurgeon will then perform the diskectomy and fusion. The vascular surgeon will then close the incision, making sure important structures are intact.

Exposure: The vascular surgeon performs the exposure for the spine surgeon and then closes. This is very common for this surgical approach. Check out spine-health.Com.
