Wouldn't getting veneers not be good because it reduces your tooth structure?

Just a bit: The preparation of the tooth for a veneer is minimal, leaving plenty of enamel. But let's face it, it is a cosmetic procedure, and there is a small risk and downside to taking away some of the enamel. Patients who agree to veneers feel it is worth it considering the great looking smile they end up with. The teeth should be no weaker with a well fitting, properly cemented restoration.

Rewards vs risks?: Although veneers are often used to improve the patients smile (esthetics), there are times they are used to strengthen and protect the teeth as well. The veneer surface cannot decay. Tooth reduction is usually minimal and if made by an experienced dentist and maintained well by you, there are usually more benefits than drawbacks. Discuss your particular situation with your own dentist.

Veneers: Getting veneers is usually considered a cosmetic procedure, however it may be a method of restoration that is more conservative than crowning a tooth where the entire tooth is made smaller. There is however the option of the "no-prep veneer" where all that is neede is an impression of the teeth involved. You should consult with your dentist to see if you are a candidate for this esthetic procedure.

Sure hrs non-sure: Most dental procedures are surgical. To do veneers requires min imal tooth reshaping, but it is irreversible. Depending on your occlusion the life-span of hot veneers may be about 10 years, but will eventually require revision. See an Orthodontist. There may be a non-surgical alternative. And Initial Orthodontic Examinations are usually complimentary. See a qualified Orthodontic specialist.
