A member asked:

Would routine blood work have any indications as to pancreas problems (i.e. lower blood count, increased white blood cells, etc.) what would those be?

Lipase, amylase,: This depends on the pathology or the disease type of the pancrease (pancrelipase) itself. In acute pancreatitis (inflammation of pancrease (pancrelipase)) >amylase and lipase enzyme substances are elevated in the blood. >white blood cells can also be elevated . In gallstone pancreatitis ( pancreatitis caused by gallbladder stones) >liver function tests can be elevated. In pancreatic cancer. >ca 19.9 can be elevated in blood.

No: Those would not indicate pancreatic problems. Problems with the hormonal part of the pancreas would show up with glucose values. Problems with the digestive part may show up in liver tests or pancreatic tests (amylase, lipase) or just present with symptoms. Check w/ your doctor if you have questions or concerns.
