Hoarseness: Hoarseness is caused by anything that irritates the vocal cords -- post-nasal drip, viral infection, polyps, screaming, singing, smoking, etc. -- voice rest is the treatment of choice -- persistent hoarseness needs to be evaluated by your physician, especially if you are a smoker.
