Fungal infection: Jock itch (tinea cruris) is caused by a fungal infection. Similar to athlete's foot, cream used to treat this condition are often effective for jock itch as well. Examples include Lamisil (terbinafine) at and lotrimin. See your doctor to confirm the diagnosis.
