Varicocele: Varicocele have been removed in the past believing it could lead to low sperm counts and infertility in adulthood. Varicoceles increase the temperature in the scrotum, and may reduce sperm counts by reducing testosterone. Removal may increase both. Not all varicoceles should or are removed, and most are still sufficiently fertile to have multiple children. The debate continues.

Lack of evidence: There is evidence that varicocele can reduce sperm count thereby reducing male fertility. The efficacy of repair increasing fertility is questioned. However, as best i can tell, no clear evidence exists related to adverse effects on testosterone production. I do welcome evidence to the contrary.

Varicocele->low T.: Recent reliable & respected studies have proven that varicoceles cause reduced testosterone levels & levels slowly increase a few months after varicocelectomy or spermatic vein ligation. Thus agree. Does not mean that men with varicoceles are infertile because many men with varicoceles have fathereed children, but fertility is definitely reduced. Increased scrotal temp from varicocele main cause.
