A member asked:

I have a ct scan with contrast they told me not to eat or drink 4 hours before. but i forgot and i ate. what will happen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Likely nothing: The old protocols for a ct scan with contrast stated that there should be nothing by mouth 4 hours prior to the study. The rationale was to prevent vomiting thought to be caused by the intravenous contrast. The contrast agents currently used have very little likelihood of causing vomiting, so most centers will now allow you to drink clear liquids prior to the study. Still best to avoid solids.
