A member asked:

I've been on different anxiety meds for over 10 yr. can you become immune to their effects? do they cause any long term side effects or new conditions

Which medications?: Some anxiety medications, especially benzodiazepines, induce tolerance and habituation. You would need higher and higher dosing for the same effect. Though they can be safe when used temporarily and in limited fashion, they can also be used addictively. If this happened, it would be a "new condition." in anxiety, psychotherapy is essential -- even when medications are also being employed.
