Herpes virus: The sore on your palate is probably a herpes viral infection. These ulcers normally last 10-14 days. They can be painful and cause other referred pain. This infection is an opportunistic type from a trigger or weakened immune system. Therefore go to see your md to determine the cause of long term lymph node swelling.

Active/swollen nodes: Aka lymphadenopathy, that have been symptomatic for a year suggest a chronic problem w infection or systemic issues. This is not normal. Get to your otolaryngologist or oral surgeon asap. Very important that you be examined and find the source of this long standing issue.
