The lymph nodes "taste" the lymph to see if anything bad is there like bacteria, viruses, cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system by enlarging in response. Prolonged enlargement should be biopsied. They shrink if no problem.

See your physician: When glands are swollen that is a sign that your body is fight off infection. This is certainly a time to see your physician for a full examination and please call attention to areas of concern like your swollen neck . Once you have seen the doctor and your health improves, the swelling will go away. Please see your doctor.
