Why do i need to sleep more than 12 hours a day to function properly?

Actually asleep?: You may have a sleeping disorder, there are very many. You may be in bed for all that 12 hours, but you may only be getting 8 hours of actual sleep. I would suggest seeing a sleep physician. They will probably order a sleep study which will help see if there are problems that they can help you with.
