A 30-year-old member asked:

what happens if you use diflucan (fluconazole) and monistat together ?

Treating IN & OUT: These are both antifungal medicines but Monistat is a topical (intra-vaginal) that is available otc. For common 'yeast infection' it is much easier to take only dose of Diflucan (fluconazole) than using otc Monistat etc... So , taking both just means treating from the inside as well as outside, which is often not needed. This may increase chance of success, but not sure by how much. Consult doc. Good luck.

Fluconazole!: A great antifungual drug. Yes, liver issues are commonly listed (but very uncommon) as a side effect and its effects on the metabolism of other drugs (increasing levels of statins, viagra, (sildenafil) cialis), but they are far more less likely to have these issues compared with other systemic antifungals. I've used it in hundreds of patients without seeing a single major problem.
