Yes but also if not: Open heart cardiac bypass surgery has many potential risks during the surgery and during recovery- rhythm problems, fluid buildup around heart/in lung cavities, infection, etc. These potential problems are monitored closely and treated if they occur. The risk of severe obstructive coronary artery disease (requiring bypass sugery) is also very significant and life threatening if not treated.
