A member asked:

Please tell me how long it takes for to develop type 1 diabetes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Months to years: Type 1 diabetes occurs because of autoimmune destruction of the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. This destruction can occur over months or, in some adults, years. Sometimes it occurs slowly enough that people are misdiagnosed as being type 2 diabetics rather than type 1.
