Depends: The best answer depends on the perspective. If you count the 10-21 days that you incubate & have the quiet stage prior to breaking out it is quite long. A person becomes contagious a day or so before breaking out, has crops of new blisters for 3-5 days & then is not contagious after the last one dries out, about 6 days after the first spot.
