Confusing question: Whooping cough is caused by a contagious bacteria called b. Pertussis. When present in a community it can spread, most commonly among adults with waning immunity and passed to unprotected infants .The infants under 6 months of age have the highest fatality rate, and >15 infant deaths have occurred on the west coast in 2010.Proper treatment is needed to stop the spread of this deadly disease.
