Would it be abnormal that the pain occurs only at a single quadrant of a single breast?

No: not normal: If a specific quadrant of the breast is painful, it may be an indication of pathology in that quadrant. This should be further e allayed and will likely require diagnostic imaging to determine the nature of the problem and if additional testing is necessary.
