Several: The adrenal gland makes 4 different types of hormones - cortisol, androgens (male hormones), adrenaline-like substances, and aldosterone (for blood pressure). An adrenal problem can be due to an excess or deficiency of one or more of these hormones. Or it can be a benign non functioning mass.
