Is it effective to take cephalexin for a sore throat?

See you doctor 1st: A sore throat can be caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Cephalexin is an antibiotic used to treat certain kinds of bacterial infections. If the sore throat is caused by a virus, Cephalexin will not be effective. Therefore it is important to see your md for an assessment, culture and appropriate therapy.
