A member asked:

How do doctors tell from an ultrasound image if you have kidney stones or caner?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Kidney stones have a bright or echogenic appearance on ultrasound. Color doppler also produces a characteristic "twinkling" artifact that helps to differentiate stones from other causes of bright structures in the kidney. Cancer is demonstrated by the presence of a mass either in the kidney cortex or in the collecting structures of the kidney. The appearance is different.
