Help please! is common cold in children should be followed by an ear examination?

Maybe: A common cold will generally self heal in most kids at any age. However, it is a common trigger to such things as an ear infection & these can arise within 8 hours of a previous clear exam.Unless the kid has new added symptoms of declining feeding, increasing temperature and alteration in his/her sleep pattern, i think the kid can be monitored at home.

If your child is...: ....Being seen by your pediatrician for any illness, a cold included, the ears should be checked as part of the examination.
