A member asked:

Is the common cold in children something that should be followed by an ear examination to rule out an ear infection?

No: Unless there seems to be hearing loss, or other problems following the cold, a routine examination is not necessary following a common cold.

No: The presence of a little fluid in the middle ear following a cold is common, but does not require evaluation or treatment. If pain, fever or other issues arise during or after the cold, it would be worth a visit.
