Ear infection?: Common cold and other causes of sore throat may block the eustachian tube that goes from the throat to the middle ear. It may happen with or without infection going to the middle ear. Try warm gargles and/or steam inhalation. If you do not get better in couple of days or if there is discharge from the ear, please consult your doctor.
