How do doctors diagnose babies with autism?

Dr. Lisa Rankin answered

Specializes in ADHD and Autism

Observation : I am not sure what age range you mean but the diagnosis is not usually made under the age of three. This does not mean there are not signs that are very suggestive, and that needed therapies should be withheld. There are screening tools that are used and at very young ages may not be as accurate. There are also some children that will improve with therapy and avoid diagnosis. Close followup key.
