No answer right now: At this time we do not know what causes autism or what could decrease the prevalence of autism. We are searching for answers, but please do not think there is an action which would increase the chance of having autism or cause someone to have autism.

A few things are : Known to ? risk of a woman's having a child with ASD if they're done prior to conception: taking a daily folate (folic acid) supplement, having a flu vaccine ( if not, having a flu shot the 2nd trimester), checking immunity to rubella, avoiding alcohol, tobacco & drugs, checking safety of prescribed meds, herbs & supplements, weight reduction if obese, & good prenatal care to avoid pre-term delivery.
