Multiple Factors: I am not completely sure what you mean by your question, but significant episodes of depression are most commonly thought to be caused by a problem in the part of the brain that has to do with emotions. Thus, it is considered to be a biological problem. However, there is no question that circumstances and other environmental situations can have a huge effect on how a person experiences depression.
