Unusual: A true petit mal (or absence) seizure occurring in an adult after a traumatic brain injury is very unusual. Petit mals usually begin in childhood. Adults typically develop complex partial seizures which may resemble petit mals but are slightly different. Distinguishing complex partial seizures from petit mals is important since treatment is different for each.
