Depends!: Most people should get 1/2 gram of protein per pound of body weight per day. Athletes need more, about 1 gram per pound. The offical government quideline is 50-60g/day, but without reference to size, sex, or activity. It is suprising how many of my female patients do not hit the 50 gram mark!

Lean protein.: For general health it's recommended to take one gram of lean protein (fish, pork, egg whites, chicken, turkey) per kilogram of body weight. If you weight train, it's recommended to take one gram per pound of body weight to promote muscle recovery and building.
