What happens if an orthopedic casting has some cracks?

Break/skin problems: If a cast is cracking, then it could lose its effectiveness. The cast is designed to rigidly hold the bone in place while a fracture or injury heals. Furthermore, if it cracks and bends it can cause pressure on the skin and potentially cause skin ulceration.
