Epidural : Usually this is normal. Two medications are the epidural. A local anesthetic which will wear off that day or overnight and a corticosteroid. This medication can take several days before it helps with the pain. The good news is once the steroid starts to work it can last several weeks. However, if you notice swelling, discharge at the injection site, or get a fever go back to your provider.

It Can Happen: Sometimes when the anesthetic wears off the extra fluid that was injected could aggravate your pain. typically though the steroid will take a few days to start working so you amy have pain before the steroid starts helping. Speak with your doctor about what you can do to help in these few days.
