Amitriptyline: Yes, if you were taking it to help sleep then stopping it can cause rebound insomnia. Likewise if you were taking it for depression then stopping it can cause rebound depression which will also affect sleep.

Sleep: Amitrypline is a sedating tricyclic antidepressant which also blocks uptake of serotonin norepinephrin and Dopamine and can affect rem sleep more.
