Very low dose: If you were to stop the medicine abruptly, you would likely have no overt reaction, but might have breakthrough of facial pain. But never do such an action without discussing fully with your doctor. However, you are almost taking a homeopathic dose, so stopping is not really a challenge.

Trigeminal neuralgia: Before changing or stopping the Elavil (amitriptyline) call your prescribing physician. While the dosage is low and presumably the face pain is gone, tapering will reduce the likelihood of withdrawal. Withdrawal symptoms include headache, nausea, and irritability. The face pain may recur too.

Please let MD know.: The way to prevent relapse and possible withdrawals is to work with your doctor who will gradually decrease your medications. Having said this, however, you are on a relatively small dose of amitriptyline, and your doctor may just have you take half of a tablet daily for a few days and then if all goes well, at that time may have you discontinue it altogether. Hope you feel better soon!
