No best meds: First line meds are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Atypical antipsychotics are added in for significant disassociation. Abilify (aripiprazole) is good (but akathesia can be problematic). Risperdal is a option if there is aggression. Any of them can be tried. Additional sleep medication may be required. I personally like the combo of Buspar + melatonin. I try to stay away from benzodiazapines.

Many Treatments: Although medications may be needed, often patients improve most when their entire being is addressed. Many other factors beyond medications can be helpful. An excellent resource is the book : the trauma took kit, healing ptsd from the inside out. Traumatoolkit.Com this award-winning book provides an understanding of ptsd as something that affects your entire being - mind, body and spirit.
