Dr. Liuska Pesce answered
22 years experience in Pediatric Endocrinology
Insulin: Type 1 diabetic patients need Insulin in order to be able to utilize glucose and stay healthy, they also need to learn how to count carbohydrates, check blood sugar and to check urine for ketones. Ketones are made when the body can not use sugar (glucose) and they can increase the acid in the body and cause diabetic ketoacidosis, a very serious complication of diabetes.
