Anesthesia Methods: Quickly - intravenous or inhalation. Iv medication like Propofol or inhalation gas like sevoflorane, or even a combination. Inhalation anesthetics require intubation and typically a muscle paralytic is given as well, requiring ventilation. Deep sedation/general anesthesia for procedures like wisdom teeth removal and colonoscopies do not require intubation or artifical ventilation.

See below: General anesthesia can be induced (started) by one of three ways: a shot, an injection into a vein, or by breathing an anesthetic gas. All three techniques are used depending on the patient and the procedure.
