Autonomic reflex: The parasympathetic nervous system controls "rest and digest" reflexes. While sympathetic nerve firing tends to be synchronized (fast heart rate-->fast breathing-->peripheral vasoconstriction), parasympathetic firing tends to be more discrete, each organ controlled separately. However, gut motility can sometimes lead to peripheral vasodilation = facial flushing, lightheadedness and feeling hot.
