Get it evaluated....: If the pain is out of proportion, losing all function of the hand or the hand is cold to the touch/ a weird color, you need to go to the er or an urgent care center- a patient can't always know if what they are having is really carpal tunnel syndrome or else something more serious like an infectious tenosynovitis or other problem that can permanently lose the function of your affected hand.
