My wife and i are mixed on this question: what is the correct way to stop a nose bleed?

Pressure: Pinch the nose for 10 minutes. Sit upright and lean slightly forward. Some people benefit from an ice pack across the bridge of the nose (not over the eyes!) before bed after a nosebleed, put a thin layer of petrolatum jelly in the nose with a tissue and put a humidifier or vaporizer in the bedroom-- just water, no medicine in it! if bleeding over 10min or other signs of bleeding: see your doc!
