Can an abnormal pap mean you have hpv?

Pap Smears and HPV: It is lilely there is high-risk hpv present with an abnormal pap but the chance of that depends on what the pap abnormality is. If the pap is ascus (atypical cell of undetermined significance) the likelihood of hpv is less than a hsil (high grade) where it is almost certainly there.

Abnormal Pap: Yes, this is usually the reason a pap smear is done: to see cervical changes that can predict the risk of cancer. These predictable changes are those caused by the worst of the hpv strains. You should, regardless of your exposure history, get and complete the gardisil vaccine series.
